Description

A drum shade of taupe faux silk, lined in halo gold, hangs beneath a satin nickel suspension, with a frosted acrylic diffuser closing off the underside. The lining warms the light on its way out and the diffuser takes the glare off the lamps, so what reaches the room is a soft, even wash rather than a row of bright spots. It takes three E27 lamps, which gives it plenty of output for a main light. At 40cm across, the shade reads as a generous drum without swallowing a modest room, and the flex can be set short or left long.

We would hang this over a dining table, where the diffuser matters most because you sit under it and look up. It works equally well in a sitting room, a bedroom or the turn of a stairwell, and the taupe is quiet enough to sit against warm neutrals, greens or a papered wall without arguing. It is dimmable with a compatible lamp and dimmer, which is worth doing over a table. The fitting is for dry indoor rooms, so a kitchen or hall is fine and a bathroom is not.

The frame is metal in a satin nickel finish, softly reflective rather than bright, and the shade is a dual faux silk with the gold on the inner face. For cleaning, switch off at the wall, dust the fabric with a soft brush and wipe the diffuser with a barely damp cloth once the lamps are cold. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Baymont range includes plain multi-light fittings for your own shades, in polished chrome, antique brass, white and satin black, along with linear pendants where light needs spreading along a length.
