Description

A soft drum shade in grey and white laminated faux silk sits over a frosted acrylic diffuser, so light spreads sideways through the fabric and falls evenly down through the base. Three E27 lamps sit inside, which gives real output for a room served by one fitting. The shade measures 40cm across, wide enough to read as generous without swamping a table, and the suspension and ceiling plate are finished in satin nickel, a quiet brushed silver that settles happily against the grey.

We would hang this over a dining table or a kitchen island, where the diffuser stops the lamps glaring at anyone sitting underneath. It suits a hallway or a landing too, as the flex can be shortened when fitted or left long, dropping as far as 3.3m where the ceiling is high. Dimming is possible if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer, neither of which comes with the fitting. It is one we reach for where a lone pendant would leave a big room short of light.

The frame is metal beneath its satin nickel finish, with the acrylic diffuser closing the underside and the laminated shade wrapped above it. Dust the fabric with a soft brush and wipe the diffuser with a barely damp cloth once the lamps are cold; strong sprays and solvents will mark the laminate, so keep them away from it. It carries a one year warranty.
