Description

Five lamps sit on a multi-arm frame under one broad faux silk drum, so the light spreads across a room rather than pooling under a single point. The metalwork is finished in antique brass, warm and gently aged rather than bright and new. The shade is ivory pearl on the outside with a white laminate lining, which keeps the light coming down clean and slightly soft. At 60cm across, it reads as a generous circle from below.

We would hang it over a dining table, a kitchen island or a wide hallway with the height to carry something this size. The chain measures 1.5m, so the fitting can sit tucked up near the ceiling in a hall or be dropped to head height above a table. It takes small E14 candle lamps, and it will dim happily where dimmable lamps and a suitable dimmer are used. In a sitting room it works well as the main source, with a couple of table lamps for the corners.

Faux silk gives the shade its gentle sheen, and the white lining behind it does the work of pushing light down onto the table. A soft brush, or the upholstery attachment on a vacuum, keeps the fabric fresh, and a dry cloth is all the brass needs; keep anything damp away from the shade. It is a fitting for dry rooms indoors, well away from bathrooms and porches. It carries a one year warranty.
