Description

A wide, shallow drum of faux silk sits on a satin nickel multi-arm frame, with five holders for small candle lamps. The shade is a dual layer: taupe on the outer face, halo gold on the inner, so the light it throws down carries a warm cast rather than a flat one. At 60cm across it is broad and low in profile, a shape that spreads light across a room instead of pooling it in one spot.

It suits a room with a bit of width to fill: over a dining table, along a generous hallway, or as the central light in a bedroom where a narrow pendant would look undersized. A 1.5m chain comes with it, giving plenty of scope for higher ceilings as well as ordinary ones. Dimming works if you fit dimmable lamps and run them from a dimmer. We would choose warm white LED candles here, since the gold lining rewards a softer tone. It is an indoor fitting for dry rooms.

The metalwork is satin rather than polished, so it stays quiet next to brass or chrome elsewhere in the room, and the shade is faux silk in a drum shape. Faux silk mostly needs dust kept off it: a soft brush, or a vacuum brush head on its lowest setting, drawn gently over the outside. Wipe the nickel with a dry, lint-free cloth and keep sprays and damp away from the fabric altogether. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included. Against pale plaster the taupe reads gentle and neutral, while the gold inner gives the fitting more warmth once the lamps are on in the evening.
