Description

Five arms spread out beneath a broad drum shade, so the light is shared across the whole width rather than pinned to a single point. The shade is dual layered faux silk: nude beige on the outside, with a moonlight lining that softens the glow on its way through. The metalwork is satin nickel, a low grey sheen that sits quietly against the pale fabric, and the chain suspension can be shortened or let out to suit the height of the ceiling.

At 60cm across it is a large fitting, and it wants somewhere with room to breathe. We would hang it over a dining table long enough to carry the width, or in a hallway where a broad shade reads better than a slim one. A full set of candle lamps behind faux silk gives a gentle, even light rather than a hard beam, so it works in a sitting room or a bedroom as readily as it does over dinner. Fit dimmable lamps and it will take a dimmer, which is worth doing in a room used late.

The frame and chain are metal in that satin nickel finish, and the shade is faux silk, beige facing the room and moonlight facing in. Cleaning wants a dry hand: a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum for the fabric, then a dry cloth over the nickel to lift fingermarks. Keep it to indoor rooms, well away from a bathroom or anywhere that steams up. It carries a one year warranty. We like it in pale, warm schemes where the beige can sit against wood or linen, and the nickel keeps things from turning too sweet. Lamps are bought separately, and we would choose LED candles on the E14 fitting.

How wide is the shade, and how far down does it hang?

The shade measures 600mm in diameter and 220mm deep. It hangs on a 1.5m chain, giving an adjustable drop from 340mm at the shortest to 1800mm fully extended.

What lamps does it take?

Five E14 lamps, rated up to 20W each. LED candle lamps in the C35 shape are the ones we would fit, and they are not included.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer come with the fitting.

What colour is the lining?

The outer face of the shade is nude beige and the inner face is moonlight, so the light picks up a little warmth as it passes down through the fabric.

How should I clean the faux silk?

Dry methods only. Use a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery tool to lift dust from the fabric, and keep any damp cloth for the satin nickel parts, drying them straight after.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry indoor rooms such as dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways.
