Description

Five lamps sit beneath a single broad shade of faux silk, carried on a multi-arm frame finished in matt black. The shade is 60cm across and shallow in profile, grey on the face with a white laminate lining that pushes the light back down. The frame holds each lamp out to its own point under the fabric, so the light spreads across the width of the shade instead of pooling in one place. The drop is adjustable, and the lamps themselves are small E14 candles.

We would hang this over a dining table, where the width of the shade earns its keep and the soft, even light falls across plates and glasses rather than glaring off them. It also works in a wide hallway or above a kitchen island, and in a bedroom with a decent ceiling height it gives a gentle light without the hard edge of a downlight. Dimmable lamps will let you take it down to something quieter for the evening; the dimmer switch itself is a separate purchase.

The shade is faux silk over a laminate liner, and the metalwork wears an even matt black that suits the slim lines of the arms. Dust it with a dry cloth or a soft brush and it will keep looking right; damp cloths and sprays are best kept well away from the fabric. Keep it to indoor rooms where the air stays dry. It carries a one year warranty. Paired with clear candle lamps it reads as the more decorative option, while opal candles keep things plain and quiet. Lamps are not included.
