Description

Five slim arms sweep out from a central antique brass column, each carrying a candle lamp beneath a broad drum shade in grey faux silk. At 60cm across, the shade is wide enough to draw the light into a soft, even wash, while the grey and white laminate lining pushes that light downwards rather than letting the fabric absorb it. The chain suspension allows a good deal of adjustment, so the shade can hang low over a table or be taken up to clear a busy walkway.

This is a pendant for rooms with some ceiling height and a bit of floor to fill: above a dining table, in a stairwell, or centred in a sitting room where a cluster of small lamps reads warmer than a single large fitting. We would put LED candle lamps in it, and if you want the level to come down in the evening, choose dimmable ones and add a dimmer on the circuit. The multi arm layout keeps the shade evenly lit even at lower output, which suits long dinners better than a hard overhead glare.

The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, warm and gently aged rather than bright, and the faux silk shade is laminated on the inside for a clean pale face. Keep the fabric looking fresh with a soft brush or the low setting on an upholstery tool, and wipe the brasswork with a dry cloth only, as damp will mark both the finish and the bound edge of the shade. It carries a one year warranty. We like it with warm white lamps and other brass pieces in the same room, where the grey shade stops the metal reading as too showy. Lamps are not included.
