Description

Five arms curve out from a central stem in antique brass, each tipped with a small candle lamp holder and gathered beneath one wide drum shade. That shade is faux silk in black, lined with a white laminate that throws light back down onto whatever sits below. At 60cm across and shallow in the body, it is a broad, low-slung shape, so the effect in a room is horizontal rather than tall and columnar.

We reach for this where a table needs covering end to end: a long dining table, a kitchen island, or a wide hallway where a slim single pendant would look mean. The chain gives a useful spread of drops, from close to the ceiling line down to something far lower over a stair void. It takes small candle lamps on E14 holders, and we would choose LED candles here for their low heat and quiet running. It will dim if dimmable lamps are used, though a dimmer is not supplied with it.

The frame and arms are metal in an antique brass finish, warm and gently aged rather than bright and showy, with the black shade keeping the whole piece grounded above a table. To keep it looking well, lift dust from the fabric with a soft brush and give the metalwork an occasional wipe with a dry cloth, working with the power off and the lamps cold. Its place is a dry room indoors, not a bathroom, a porch or anywhere it might take weather. It carries a one year warranty. Fit clear glass candle lamps and it reads more decorative, with the arms and filaments on show; fit opal ones and it settles down into something softer and steadier. Lamps are not included.
