Description

Three slender arms rise from a matt black centre, each holding a candle lamp beneath a single wide drum shade. The shade measures 45cm across and is made from faux silk fabric, black outside with a pale laminate lining, and that width does the work: the light spreads into a broad soft pool rather than a single hard spot. The drop is adjustable, so it can sit close under the ceiling or hang as low as 1.8m over a table.

We reach for a fitting like this above a dining table or a kitchen island, where a small pendant would leave the far corners dim. It works in a sitting room too, over a low table or in the gap between the sofas, and the black shade holds its own against pale walls without turning the corner heavy. Anyone furnishing a first home will find it does the job of a larger fitting without the bulk. It takes E14 candle lamps, and it will dim as long as the lamps you buy are dimmable ones. Indoors and in dry rooms, it runs on ordinary household mains.
