Three candle lamps sit on a matt black multi-arm frame beneath a single wide faux silk shade, 45cm across in grey with a pale lining that bounces light back down into the room. Seen by day the grey reads soft and quiet; lit, it warms considerably. The spread is broad and gentle rather than a narrow pool, and the frame shows as a dark line inside the shade. The drop adjusts, so it can sit close to the ceiling or hang well down over a table.

It suits a dining table, a kitchen island or a hallway where you want light spread wide and little glare at eye level. In a bedroom it works centred in a smaller room, or over a chest of drawers. We would fit LED candle lamps in the E14 sockets, and if you want the level to change through the evening, choose dimmable lamps and pair them with a dimmer, as neither comes with the fitting. It is a dry indoor fitting, for rooms away from splashes and steam.

The shade is faux silk over a laminate lining, and the frame, arms and ceiling plate are finished in matt black. Dust settles on the top edge of a wide shade, so lift it away with a soft brush or an upholstery head on low suction; keep water and sprays off the fabric, and give the lamps time to cool before you handle them. A damp cloth suits the black metal, dried straight after. It carries a one year warranty. How far down does it hang?

The drop is adjustable from 340mm at its shortest to 1800mm at its longest, with a body height of 220mm, so it can be set tight to the ceiling or dropped low over a dining table.

Which lamps should I use?

It takes three E14 candle lamps, LED C35 candles being the sensible choice, up to 20W each.

Can I dim it?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer are supplied.
