Description

The Baltimore is a 575mm-high outdoor chain pendant finished in weathered bronze with an amber-tinted blown glass diffuser. Cast metal scrollwork frames the glass panels, with decorative leaf finials at the top and bottom of the lantern body. The weathered bronze patina is hand-applied during manufacture, giving each piece slight tonal variation across the surface. An IP44 rating protects against rain and moisture splash, making the pendant suitable for covered porches, pergolas and entrance canopies.

Designed for entryways, front porches and covered outdoor dining areas, the Baltimore suspends on an adjustable chain with a drop range of 650-2255mm. This adjustability allows the pendant to be set at the correct height above a doorway (typically 2-2.2m clearance from ground level) or above an outdoor table (700-800mm above the surface). The 300mm width suits porch widths of 1.2m or wider without the pendant overwhelming the space. The chain conceals the cable run and fixes to a standard UK ceiling rose or junction box.

The amber blown glass diffuses light from a single E27 bulb (sold separately) while the cast metal frame casts shadow patterns onto adjacent walls and ceilings when lit at night. The glass panels are replaceable if damaged. The weathered bronze finish develops a deeper patina over time when exposed to outdoor conditions, which is a characteristic of the material rather than degradation. The E27 socket accepts LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to 60W, with most users choosing a 6-8W warm-white LED for porch lighting or a 2W LED filament bulb for decorative accent.

What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?

IP44 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splash from any direction. This makes the Baltimore suitable for covered outdoor locations such as porches, pergolas and entrance canopies, but not for fully exposed positions where rain hits the fitting directly from above.

What bulb is recommended?

The pendant takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W. For porch lighting, a 6-8W warm-white LED (2700K-3000K) provides adequate illumination. For decorative accent, a 2W LED filament bulb gives the appearance of a traditional flame without the heat or running cost.

Can the chain length be adjusted after installation?

The chain is adjusted during installation by removing excess links before final wiring. Once installed and wired, adjusting the drop requires disconnecting the mains supply and re-opening the ceiling rose, so it's best to set the correct drop during the initial fitting.

Will the weathered bronze finish change over time?

Yes. The hand-applied weathered bronze patina continues to develop when exposed to outdoor air and moisture, deepening in tone and developing a richer aged appearance. This is a characteristic of the finish and not a defect.
