Description

The Austen is a single-light bathroom wall light combining a ribbed clear glass tulip shade with a polished chrome solid brass base. The fitting carries an IP44 rating for bathroom zones 2 and 3, protecting the internal components from water splashes and steam. A 3W 3000K G9 LED bulb is included, providing warm white light through the vertical ribbing of the glass.

Designed for bathroom installation above mirrors, either side of a vanity, or in en-suite alcoves where a compact traditional fitting is needed. The 173mm projection from the wall brings the light forward enough to cast usable illumination across a sink area without intruding into narrow spaces. The circular backplate mounts directly to a standard UK wiring point and the G9 bulb can be replaced without removing the glass shade.

The solid brass construction beneath the polished chrome plating gives the fitting a heavier weight and more substantial feel than cheaper zinc-alloy alternatives. The vertical ribbing on the glass shade diffuses the single LED point source into a softer glow that reduces glare when installed at head height. The chrome finish resists tarnishing in humid conditions and pairs well with other polished chrome bathroom fixtures, taps and mirrors.

Which bathroom zones is the Austen suitable for?

The IP44 rating makes it suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3, which cover areas outside the immediate shower or bath enclosure. It should not be installed inside a shower cubicle or directly above a bath where it could be subjected to direct jets of water (zone 1 or 0).

Is the bulb replaceable?

Yes. The fitting comes with a 3W 3000K G9 LED bulb pre-installed. The bulb is user-replaceable by removing the glass shade, which unscrews from the chrome base. Any standard G9 LED bulb up to 3W can be used.

Can I install this horizontally or does it need to face upwards?

The glass shade is designed to face upwards as shown. Installing it sideways or downwards would require the shade to be held against gravity by the screw collar alone, which is not the intended mounting orientation and may cause the shade to work loose over time.

What projection from the wall is needed?

The fitting projects 173mm from the wall to the outer edge of the glass shade. Allow at least 200mm of clearance in front of the wall to avoid the glass being knocked when moving around the bathroom.
