Description

A glass pendant light, 25cm wide, in white. At 25cm wide it is about the width of a laptop.

Cool tones settle beside grey, blue and black without any effort. Against a warm timber they need something to mediate, or the two simply sit next to each other. Iron is the traditional choice for a reason: it takes heat, weight and time without complaint. It will mark if it is left wet, so indoors or under cover is where it belongs. The shade is included rather than sold alongside, which is worth checking against anything cheaper.

Wiring is for 1 E27 lamp up to 10-12W LED, supplied separately. E27 is the standard screw fitting, so a replacement is a supermarket purchase rather than a specialist one. It is dimmable, so the level is set at the wall rather than fixed at the bulb. The cable is clear. It hangs from 32cm, so it clears a table without cutting the sightline. A Golfball shaped bulb, which is the word to look for on the box.

Two shades of the same size can light a room completely differently depending on how open the top and bottom are. A narrow top pushes light down into a pool; a wide one lets it wash the ceiling as well. Dust is the whole of the maintenance and it matters more than it sounds: an even film of dust on a shade dims a room by more than most people would guess, and a soft brush restores it in a minute.
