Description

A slim outdoor post that puts light where you walk rather than in your eyes. It stands 80cm tall and measures 15cm across, so it reads as a neat column against planting rather than a piece of hardware. The LED sits inside and is warm white, closer to the tone of a table lamp indoors than the cold blue of older garden lighting. The output is modest and deliberately so, enough to mark an edge without flooding a neighbour's window. It runs on a straightforward on and off switch rather than a dimmer, and the driver is built in.

We would use a run of these along a path, a drive edge or the border of a lawn, spaced so the pools of light overlap and the route reads clearly after dark. It is also good at the foot of a flight of steps or beside a garden gate, where there is no wall nearby to light from. Warm white flatters brick, timber and green planting, and the fitting is sealed against dust and splashing rain, so it copes with an open garden through a British winter.

The body is finished in sand black, a matt black with a fine grain to it that hides dust and fingerprints far better than a gloss would. Care is a job for one spring morning: wipe the post down with a damp cloth, clear leaves and grit from the base, and keep the lens clean so nothing dulls the output. It carries a three year warranty. We stock the same design in a shorter 60cm height, and the two mix well in one garden: taller posts along the drive, shorter ones through the beds.
