Description

A slim bar with a small toggle switch on the body, this picture light casts its light downward over whatever hangs below. It measures 35cm across, so it suits a medium frame or a run of shelving rather than a broad canvas. Two G9 capsules sit within, drawing 8W between them and giving a daylight white that stays crisp and cool rather than warm. It dims, though you will need a dimmer suited to low-wattage LED; one is not supplied.

Cool daylight is a working light, so we would put this where you want to see detail: over a print or a map in a study, above a mirror in a cloakroom, or along a landing where warmer lamps go muddy. The arm stands the head clear of the frame below, so the light falls down the face of it rather than into the room. Being switched at the fitting makes it easy to use as an occasional light in a room that already has a main one.

The body is finished in antique brass, a warm, slightly darkened tone that sits well with old timber and painted plaster. Lamps come with it, so it works from the box. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, well away from a bath or a basin splash. For upkeep, run a dry duster along the top of the arm where dust settles, and wipe fingermarks from the toggle with a soft cloth only, nothing damp or abrasive. It carries a one year warranty.
