Description

The Knightsbridge PRCLEDEM is a 49W 5ft LED surface light fitting with integrated emergency backup, delivering 6110lm at 4000K through an opal polycarbonate diffuser mounted in a white pressed steel housing. The emergency function provides 600lm output for 3 hours on battery backup, configurable as maintained, non-maintained or switched depending on installation requirements.

Designed for commercial, retail, educational and care facility environments, the 1490mm length suits standard 5ft modular ceiling grids and provides wide-area ambient lighting across corridors, classrooms, wards and retail floors. The IP20 rating limits use to indoor dry locations, while the 120-degree beam angle gives broad even distribution without harsh shadows. Surface mounting to ceiling joists or battens requires access to mains supply for the constant current LED driver and battery charging circuit.

The pressed steel body and polycarbonate diffuser construction balance durability with light weight, making overhead installation manageable without specialised lifting equipment. The opal diffuser conceals the LED array while maintaining high efficacy at 153lm/W. The 50,000-hour L70B50 rating means the LED module should retain at least 70% of initial output after approximately 12 years of continuous use in typical commercial lighting schedules. The 5-year warranty covers the LED driver and housing but excludes the emergency battery, which typically requires replacement every 3-4 years depending on charge cycles.

What are the emergency mode options?

The fitting can be configured as maintained (emergency LEDs on constantly, switching to battery on mains failure), non-maintained (emergency LEDs off until mains failure) or switched (emergency LEDs controlled by switch in normal operation). Configuration is set during installation by an electrician.

How long does the emergency backup last?

The integrated battery provides 3 hours of emergency lighting at 600lm output when mains power fails. The battery recharges automatically when mains power is restored.

Is this suitable for schools and care homes?

Yes. The combination of high-output general lighting with emergency backup meets the requirements of educational facilities, care homes, hospitals and other environments where emergency lighting is mandated by building regulations.

How is the fitting mounted?

Surface mounting to ceiling joists or battens via fixings through the rear of the steel housing. Mains supply connection is made inside the housing to the constant current LED driver and battery charging circuit. Installation requires a qualified electrician.
