Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch provides double-pole isolation for cooker circuits and other high-load appliances up to 45A, with a built-in neon indicator that glows when the switch is in the 'on' position. The gunmetal flat plate finish sits 2.5mm proud of the wall once installed, giving an ultra-low profile that reduces projection compared to standard depth switches.

Designed for kitchens where a cooker control unit is required by building regulations, the switch isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, preventing accidental operation during cleaning or maintenance. The 45A rating handles single cookers, combined oven and hob circuits, and can control multiple cooking appliances in the same room provided the combined load does not exceed 45A at 230V.

The premium-grade steel plate is finished in gunmetal, a dark grey-brown metallic tone that sits between graphite and bronze. The flat plate includes a built-in gasket to seal against the wall surface, and the 1-gang footprint measures 87.5 x 87.5mm. The switch requires a minimum 35mm back box depth for installation and carries IP20 rating for standard indoor dry locations. The neon indicator uses minimal power and operates on the same 230V circuit as the load.

Frequently Asked

What is the neon indicator for?

The neon glows when the switch is in the 'on' position, providing a visible confirmation that power is being supplied to the appliance. This helps prevent accidentally leaving a cooker circuit live during maintenance or when the appliance is not in use.

Can this control multiple cooking appliances?

Yes, provided the combined load does not exceed 45A at 230V. A typical single oven draws 13-16A, a hob 16-32A depending on size. Check the appliance rating plates and consult a qualified electrician to confirm compatibility.

What back box depth is needed?

A minimum 35mm back box depth is required. The flat plate design with built-in gasket reduces the overall projection to just 2.5mm from the wall surface once fitted.

Is this switch compatible with induction hobs?

Yes. The 45A rating and double-pole switching are suitable for induction hobs, ceramic hobs, and traditional electric cookers. Always confirm the hob's rated current matches the switch capacity before installation.
