Description

The Knightsbridge SUR5SL is a 1500mm LED slim line luminaire delivering 3600 lumens from an integrated 40W SMD LED array at 4000K cool white, housed in a pressed steel and polycarbonate enclosure with an opal diffuser. The fitting mounts surface or suspended (suspension kit sold separately) and is designed as a direct replacement for older T8 or T5 fluorescent batten fittings in commercial and institutional settings.

Built for offices, schools, healthcare facilities and retail environments where uniform overhead lighting is required, the luminaire's 115° beam angle and opal diffuser provide low-glare general illumination across work surfaces and circulation spaces. The 45mm projection makes it suitable for low-ceiling installations, while the 145mm width gives enough aperture for the diffuser to spread light without hotspots. Push-fit terminals with loop-in/loop-out provision simplify wiring on multi-fitting runs.

The pressed steel body and polycarbonate diffuser construction carries an IP20 rating for dry indoor use and a Class I earth connection for mains wiring safety. At 140.3 lumens per watt efficacy, the fitting meets current Eco Design and ErP requirements and is rated for 50,000 hours L70B50 lifespan. The fitting works with Knightsbridge motion and daylight sensors (sold separately) for occupancy-based dimming or switching, reducing energy use in intermittently-occupied spaces. The LED is non-dimmable on standard mains circuits.

Is this fitting dimmable?

No. The integrated LED operates on 230V 50Hz mains via a constant current driver and is not compatible with standard dimmer switches. For occupancy-based control, pair the fitting with Knightsbridge motion or daylight sensors (sold separately) which can switch the fitting on/off rather than dim it.

Can it replace a fluorescent batten fitting?

Yes. The 1500mm length and dual mount capability make it a direct replacement for older T8 or T5 fluorescent batten fittings. The 45mm projection is slimmer than most fluorescent fittings, and the push-fit terminals with loop-in/loop-out provision simplify wiring on multi-fitting runs.

What's the difference between surface and suspended mounting?

Surface mounting fixes the fitting directly to a ceiling via the rear plate. Suspended mounting uses a suspension kit (sold separately) to hang the fitting on cables from a higher ceiling, useful in warehouses, retail spaces or double-height areas. Both options use the same fitting body.

What does the L70B50 rating mean?

L70B50 at 50,000 hours means that after 50,000 hours of operation, 50% of the LED modules in a batch will still emit at least 70% of their initial lumen output. This is the standard lifespan metric for commercial LED fittings and indicates the point at which lumen depreciation becomes noticeable.
