Description

The Knightsbridge 32A key card switch is a single-gang hotel-specification switch that activates mains power and lighting circuits when a guest inserts a key card into the front slot. The circuit disconnects automatically 30 seconds after the card is removed, preventing energy waste when rooms are unoccupied. The switch is housed in an antique brass screwless faceplate with a black card slot frame and a backlit pink arrow indicator that remains visible in dark rooms.

Designed for hotels, serviced apartments, student accommodation and Airbnb properties where energy control is required, the switch replaces a standard single-gang opening and fits a 35mm minimum back box depth. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, hiding all fixings from view once installed. The 32A rating handles combined lighting, socket and appliance loads typically found in a hotel room without requiring multiple circuits.

The antique brass finish provides a warm, aged metallic tone that pairs with traditional and heritage interior schemes. The 201 stainless steel construction resists fingerprints and wear in high-turnover commercial environments. The built-in gasket around the card slot prevents dust ingress and the backlit arrow indicator uses a low-power neon element visible from across the room, allowing guests to locate the switch at night without needing additional signage.

The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 for commercial switching applications and carries IP20 ingress protection for standard indoor use. The 30-second delay on power disconnection allows guests time to reach the door or bathroom light without the room cutting to darkness the moment the card is removed.

Frequently Asked

What happens when the guest removes the key card?

The switch maintains power for 30 seconds after card removal, then disconnects all circuits controlled by the switch. This delay allows guests time to reach the door or bathroom before the room goes dark, while still preventing energy waste when the room is unoccupied.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 35mm back box depth is required. The switch has a total depth of 45.75mm, with 31.5mm recessed into the wall and 14.25mm projection from the wall surface once installed.

Can this switch handle all circuits in a hotel room?

The 32A rating is designed to handle combined lighting, socket and appliance loads typical in a single hotel room. Check the total anticipated load across all circuits before installation to confirm the switch is appropriately rated.

Does the backlit arrow stay on constantly?

The pink backlit arrow indicator uses a low-power neon element and remains visible whenever mains power is available to the switch, making the card slot easy to locate in dark rooms without additional signage or lighting.
