Description
The Knightsbridge SF2193AB is a 3-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer with switchable trailing-edge and leading-edge modes, rated for 10-200W halogen or 5-150W dimmable LED per gang. Each gang has a push on/off function and a rotary dimmer control, set behind an antique brass screwless faceplate with matching antique brass dimmer caps.
Designed for multi-zone lighting control in living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms where different circuits need independent dimming, the 2-way switching allows the same lights to be controlled from two different wall locations. The intelligent circuit automatically detects load type and can be toggled between trailing-edge mode (preset) and leading-edge mode using the front-facing control knob, allowing compatibility with both modern dimmable LED lamps and traditional halogen downlights without needing to rewire or replace the dimmer.
The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, hiding all fixings once installed and giving a clean finish against painted or wallpapered walls. The antique brass finish is a warm, aged brass tone with darker patina accents, pairing well with period interiors, traditional schemes and warm-toned contemporary rooms. Built-in overload protection, overheat protection and inrush current limiting prevent damage from power surges or incompatible loads.
Each gang is rated independently at 10-200W for halogen or 5-150W for dimmable LED. The dimmer requires all lamps on a single gang to be the same brand, type and wattage — mixing lamp types or brands on one gang will cause flicker or failure to dim smoothly. The 25mm minimum back box depth accommodates standard UK electrical back boxes, and the earth terminal provides grounding for metal faceplates.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming?
Trailing-edge dimming cuts the trailing portion of the AC waveform and works best with dimmable LED and low-voltage halogen lamps. Leading-edge dimming cuts the leading portion and suits traditional incandescent and mains-voltage halogen lamps. This dimmer ships preset to trailing-edge mode but can be switched to leading-edge using the front control knob if your lamps flicker or do not dim smoothly.
Can I mix LED and halogen lamps on the same gang?
No. Each gang must have lamps of the same type, brand and wattage. Mixing lamp types or brands on one gang causes flicker, buzzing or inconsistent dimming. You can use different lamp types across the three gangs (e.g. LED on gang 1, halogen on gang 2), but not within a single gang.
What back box depth is required?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds approximately 22.6mm of projection from the wall once fitted.
How is the screwless plate removed for redecorating?
The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be gently prised off using a flat-blade screwdriver at the bottom edge, removed for painting or wallpapering, and re-clipped without touching the wiring.
