Description
The Knightsbridge 20AX 1-gang intermediate modular switch is a 25x50mm black switch module designed to fit Euro modular faceplates, allowing installers to build custom multi-gang switch and socket combinations. An intermediate switch is used in three-way or four-way lighting circuits where a single light or group of lights needs to be controlled from three or more locations in a room or hallway.
Designed for residential and commercial installations requiring flexible switch configurations, the module clips into compatible Knightsbridge modular faceplates alongside other 25x50mm modules such as sockets, data ports, or additional switches. The 20AX rating handles lighting loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains, making it suitable for multi-lamp circuits, chandeliers, or high-output LED driver loads. The module requires a 25mm minimum back box depth and is rated IP20 for indoor use only.
The black ABS construction provides a hard-wearing surface that resists scratching and discolouration under regular use. The rocker action gives clear tactile feedback when switching, and the module fits flush within the faceplate aperture once installed. Knightsbridge produces matching modules in the same black finish, allowing consistent aesthetics across multi-gang plates.

Frequently Asked
What is an intermediate switch used for?
An intermediate switch is used in lighting circuits where three or more switches control the same light or group of lights. It sits between two two-way switches in the circuit. Common applications include long hallways, staircases with landings, and large rooms with multiple entry points.
What faceplate does this module fit?
This 25x50mm module fits Knightsbridge Euro modular faceplates in 1-gang, 2-gang, 3-gang and 4-gang configurations. The faceplate is sold separately and clips onto the modules once they are wired into the back box.
Can this be mixed with socket modules on the same plate?
Yes. Knightsbridge modular faceplates allow combinations of switches, sockets, USB ports, data modules and blanks in any configuration that fits the plate aperture. This 25x50mm switch occupies one module space.
What back box depth is required?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The module itself is 25.7mm deep, so the back box must accommodate the module plus wiring behind it.
