Description

This Knightsbridge 20A double pole switch features a key-operated locking mechanism that prevents unauthorised switching of connected equipment. The switch is housed in a grey powder-coated metal clad enclosure measuring 81mm square with a 54.8mm depth, designed for surface mounting in workshops, plant rooms, service areas and shared commercial spaces where secure control of high-draw appliances is needed.

The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing a higher level of isolation than single-pole switches for equipment such as water heaters, air conditioning units, and workshop machinery rated up to 20A (4,600W on 230V). The key lock operates in both the on and off positions, with two keys supplied allowing one to be held by facilities management while the other remains with the on-site team.

The premium-grade steel enclosure is powder-coated to resist surface wear and minor impacts in industrial and semi-industrial environments. The IP20 rating makes this switch suitable for dry indoor locations where dust and moisture are not present. The unit carries earth terminal connections and is certified to EN 60669-1, with Knightsbridge backing it with a 25-year guarantee.

Frequently Asked

What equipment is this switch suitable for?

This 20A switch is rated for loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains. It suits water heaters, air conditioning units, workshop machinery, commercial kitchen equipment and other fixed high-draw appliances that need secure isolation control in commercial or shared premises.

How does the lockable feature work?

The central rotary switch has a key slot. When a key is inserted and turned, the switch can be set to on or off. Removing the key locks the switch in that position, preventing it being changed without the key. Two keys are supplied with the unit.

Is this suitable for outdoor use?

No. The IP20 rating means this switch is designed for dry indoor locations only. It does not carry weatherproofing or moisture protection. For outdoor or damp locations, a higher IP-rated enclosure is needed.

What fixing method is used?

The metal clad housing is designed for surface mounting directly onto a wall or panel. Fixing screws are accessed via the two screw heads visible on the front faceplate.
