Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch features a pearl finish flat plate with a matching rocker and a red neon indicator that illuminates when the switch is on. The double pole configuration isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, providing additional safety for high-demand fixed appliances rated up to 4,600W on 230V mains.

Designed for water heaters, immersion heaters, cookers and other fixed appliances, the switch is typically installed in utility rooms, kitchens and bathrooms where 20A circuits are used. The flat plate design projects just 2.5mm from the wall once fitted, sitting almost flush with the plaster or tiling. The red neon indicator visible through the switch face confirms the circuit is live without needing to check the appliance itself.

The pearl finish is a soft off-white metallic tone that sits between white and brushed stainless in appearance, pairing with both warm and cool colour schemes. The plate measures 87.5mm square and fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth. The premium grade steel construction and integrated gasket ensure a secure mount against plaster or tile surfaces.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is a 20A switch used for?

20A double pole switches are typically used for water heaters, immersion heaters, electric cookers and other fixed appliances that draw between 13A and 20A. They are not suitable for standard plug-in appliances, which use 13A sockets instead.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon illuminates when the switch is in the 'on' position and the circuit is live. This confirms the appliance is receiving power without needing to check the appliance itself.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The flat plate adds just 2.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving an almost flush finish against plaster or tiles.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The switch carries an IP20 rating, which is suitable for most bathroom installations outside shower enclosures and splash zones. For positioning within zones 1 or 2 near baths or showers, consult a qualified electrician to confirm compliance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
