Description
The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang DP switch controls fixed electrical appliances up to 4,600W on 230V circuits, typically immersion heaters, water heaters, storage heaters and central heating controls. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing safer isolation than single-pole switches for high-draw appliances.
Designed for kitchen, utility room and airing cupboard installation, the switch uses a screwless antique brass faceplate that clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, leaving no visible screws or fixings on the wall. The neon indicator glows red when the switch is in the on position, giving instant visual confirmation that the appliance circuit is live without needing to check the appliance itself.
The antique brass finish provides a warm, lightly aged metallic tone that suits period properties, traditional kitchens and warm-toned interiors. The faceplate is constructed from 201 stainless steel with the antique brass plating applied to the surface, giving corrosion resistance and durability. The switch fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and carries a 25-year guarantee.

Frequently Asked
What appliances does a 20A switch control?
A 20A switch is rated for appliances drawing up to 4,600W on a 230V circuit. Common uses include immersion heaters, water heaters, storage heaters, central heating system controls and large extractor fans. It should not be used for standard 13A socket circuits.
What does the neon indicator show?
The neon glows red when the switch is in the on position, confirming that the appliance circuit is live. This provides visual confirmation without needing to check the appliance itself, which is useful for immersion heaters and other out-of-sight equipment.
What back box depth is required?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The screwless faceplate adds 9.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.
Is the screwless plate removable?
Yes. The antique brass cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for redecorating and re-clipped without re-wiring.
