2 Gang Telephone & TV Socket - Piano Black

Two low voltage connections share one flat plate here: a telephone socket next to a coaxial socket for the television. Because the plate is screwless, nothing breaks up the front, and the gloss of the piano black finish reads as a single clean square of 88mm. The apertures are set apart, so a phone lead and an aerial lead can run in beside each other without crowding, and the plate keeps its slim profile against the wall.

We would fit this where the phone line and the aerial feed arrive at the same point on the wall, which in most homes means behind the television or alongside a desk. In a sitting room it keeps the media corner down to one plate instead of two, which matters when the wall is a plain painted one and every plate shows. In a home office or a bedroom it puts the telephone point within easy reach. It is meant for indoor rooms and for data circuits rather than any mains work.

The plate is moulded in ABS and finished in piano black, a deep gloss that sits well with dark paint, smoked glass and modern joinery, and that shows fingerprints as any high gloss surface does. Dust it with a dry microfibre cloth, and lift marks with one wrung out almost dry; household sprays, solvents and cream cleaners will haze the shine, so keep them off it. The moulding carries a ten year warranty. Where we are specifying a whole room, we would run the same black screwless plates through to the light switches and power points so the walls stay consistent rather than half black and half white, and we would keep the plate at the same height as its neighbours so the line across the wall stays level. Leads and faceplate inserts of any other kind are separate items.

How should the gloss be cleaned?

A dry microfibre cloth for dust, and a barely damp one for marks. Avoid solvents, abrasives and cream cleaners, which dull piano black.
