Description

This is a flat screwless plate in ice white carrying two data sockets, wired for Cat 5 and Cat 6 cable. The front clips on over the mounting frame, so the face you see is a clean square with a soft edge and no screw heads to line up or paint round. The plate is 88mm square, small enough to sit quietly behind a desk or a television and tidy enough to leave on show in a room you actually use. We reach for this one where a room needs a proper wired connection rather than another wireless repeater.

Home offices, studies and media walls are the obvious homes for it: one port for the computer, the other for a printer, a games console or a smart television. Having both on a single plate also suits the spot where a network cable arrives from a cupboard or loft and has to serve more than one device. It works on low voltage data circuits only, not mains power, and belongs in dry rooms inside the house rather than a garage, a shed or anywhere it might be rained on or splashed.

The plate and its ports are moulded in ABS, a hard-wearing plastic that keeps its ice white shade and takes knocks from chair backs and vacuum heads without marking easily. Cleaning asks very little: a cloth wrung out in warm water, then dried off, and nothing abrasive or solvent based anywhere near the port openings, as scouring will dull the surface and grit can lodge in the contacts. A soft brush lifts dust from the openings if they have sat unused. It carries a ten year warranty.
