Description

The Knightsbridge SN2135W is a 13A rough use plug top moulded from white polypropylene with a nylon quick-fix cord grip and a replaceable 13A fuse fitted as standard. The quick-fix cord grip clamps the cable without requiring screws, allowing the plug to be wired and assembled faster than traditional screw-down clamps.

Designed for workshop, garage and site environments where plugs are subject to frequent plugging/unplugging, knocks and drops, the thickened polypropylene body resists impact cracking better than standard domestic plugs. The white finish hides dust and general workshop grime less visibly than translucent or clear housings. The plug is rated at 13A on 230V mains, handling loads up to 2,990W.

The plug carries BSI Kitemark certification and complies with BS 1363-2, the British Standard for 13A plugs. The IP20 rating indicates protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but no water ingress protection, so the plug is suitable for dry indoor environments only. The nylon cord grip accepts cable diameters typical of UK flex (6-10mm outer diameter) and holds the cable securely once the top half of the plug body is clipped into place.

Frequently Asked

What does 'rough use' mean in this context?

Rough use plugs have thicker polypropylene bodies than standard domestic plugs, making them more resistant to impact cracking when dropped or knocked in workshop and garage environments. They are designed for higher-frequency plugging and unplugging than typical household plugs.

How does the quick-fix cord grip work?

The nylon cord grip clamps the cable without requiring a screw-down clamp. The cable is threaded through the grip, the conductors are connected to the terminals, and the top half of the plug body clips into place, compressing the grip around the cable sheath to hold it securely.

Is the fuse replaceable?

Yes. The plug is fitted with a standard BS 1362 13A fuse that can be replaced if it blows. Replacement fuses are widely available at electrical retailers.

Can this plug be used outdoors?

No. The IP20 rating provides no protection against water ingress, so the plug is suitable for dry indoor environments only. For outdoor use, a plug with a minimum IP rating of IPX4 is required.
