Description
The Knightsbridge 13A 1-gang unswitched floor socket is a flush-mounted power outlet designed for installation into floors in offices, hotels, exhibition spaces and contemporary residential interiors. The socket sits behind a spring-loaded hinged cover made from matt black premium-grade steel that closes automatically when not in use, reducing dust ingress and keeping the floor surface flat and trip-free.
Designed for installation into a 35mm minimum back box set into the floor void, the socket projects just 3mm above the finished floor level when closed. The spring-loaded cover lifts to reveal a single 13A unswitched outlet with an earth terminal, allowing plug-in access to mains power for floor-standing lamps, cleaning equipment, portable appliances or temporary exhibition lighting. The unswitched design means no rocker or toggle switch to fail or be accidentally turned off.
The matt black finish on both the faceplate and the black insert provides a low-contrast monochrome surface that integrates into dark timber floors, polished concrete, stone and industrial-style interiors without creating a visual break. The premium-grade steel construction carries a 25-year warranty and an IP20 rating, which confirms protection against solid objects over 12.5mm but not against liquid ingress — this socket is for dry indoor use only, not bathrooms or outdoor areas.

Frequently Asked
What back box depth is needed for installation?
A 35mm minimum mounting box depth is required. The socket itself recesses 30mm into the floor void, with 3mm projection above the finished floor level when the spring-loaded cover is closed.
Is the socket switched or unswitched?
Unswitched. There is no rocker or toggle switch on the faceplate — the outlet is always live when wired to mains power. This reduces mechanical parts that could fail and simplifies use in high-traffic commercial settings.
Can this be used in bathrooms or outdoor areas?
No. The IP20 rating confirms protection against solid objects over 12.5mm but not against liquid ingress. This socket is for dry indoor use only — offices, hotel lobbies, residential living areas, exhibition halls — not wet rooms, bathrooms, kitchens near sinks, or outdoor decking.
How does the spring-loaded cover work?
The hinged cover lifts manually to access the outlet and closes automatically under spring tension when released. This keeps the floor surface flush when not in use, reducing trip hazards and preventing dust and debris from entering the socket aperture.
