Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 2-way pull cord switch is a ceiling-mounted switch in a smoked bronze finish with a 1.5m black braided pull cord and matching metal tip. The 10AX rating handles lighting circuits up to 2,300W on 230V mains, covering most domestic and light commercial ceiling lighting installations.

Designed for bathrooms, utility rooms, loft conversions and any room where wall switches are impractical or inconvenient, the pull cord allows the light to be operated from the centre of the room. The 2-way switching function means the same light can be controlled from this pull cord and a separate wall switch elsewhere in the room, useful for en-suites with both internal and external entry points. The IP20 rating makes it suitable for Zone 3 bathroom installations (outside the shower enclosure and bath area).

The 74mm-diameter ceiling rose is constructed from thermoset resin and steel, finished in a smoked bronze tone that sits between gunmetal grey and dark brown. The finish pairs with other smoked bronze, brushed bronze and antique brass fittings in the same room. The screw terminals accept standard UK lighting cable and the switch includes an earth terminal for metal-bodied light fittings. Knightsbridge backs this switch with a 25-year warranty and EN 60669-1 certification.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP20 rating makes it suitable for Zone 3 bathroom installations, which is the area outside the immediate shower enclosure or bath. It should not be installed directly above a bath or shower where water spray is possible. For those locations, an IP44 or IP65-rated pull cord is required.

What does 2-way switching mean?

2-way switching allows the same light to be controlled from two different switches. You can wire this pull cord alongside a wall switch elsewhere in the room, so the light can be turned on or off from either location. This is useful for en-suite bathrooms with both bedroom and hallway access.

What's the maximum wattage it can handle?

The 10AX rating allows up to 2,300W on 230V mains. This comfortably covers most domestic ceiling lights, including multi-bulb pendants and LED panels. If using LED bulbs, the actual draw will typically be far below this limit.

How is it wired?

The switch has screw terminals that accept standard UK lighting cable. An earth terminal is included for connecting to metal-bodied light fittings. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
