Description
The Knightsbridge PM2W is a 10AX 1-gang 2-way wide rocker switch designed to meet Part M accessibility requirements, featuring a white screwless faceplate with an anthracite curved-edge surround. The wide rocker design provides a larger surface area for operation compared to standard switches, making it easier to locate and use for people with reduced dexterity or visual impairment.
Designed for residential, care home, hospital and commercial settings where accessibility compliance is required, the switch fits a standard 16mm minimum back box depth. The 2-way configuration allows the same lighting circuit to be controlled from two separate switch positions, typical in hallways, staircases and larger rooms with multiple entry points. The 10AX rating handles resistive loads up to 2,300W and most standard domestic lighting circuits.
The thermoset resin construction carries anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the surface in high-touch environments. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate sub-frame, hiding fixings from view once installed. The white rocker provides visual contrast against the anthracite surround, meeting the colour contrast requirements of Part M building regulations for accessible switches in England and Wales.

Frequently Asked
What does Part M compliant mean for a light switch?
Part M of the UK Building Regulations sets accessibility standards for new-build and refurbished buildings. A Part M compliant switch must provide sufficient colour contrast between the rocker and the surround, be positioned within accessible height ranges, and be operable with limited dexterity. The wide rocker and white-on-anthracite contrast on the PM2W meet these requirements.
What is a 2-way switch used for?
A 2-way switch allows a single lighting circuit to be controlled from two separate positions. Common installations include hallways where switches are placed at each end, staircases with top and bottom switches, and large rooms with switches at different entry points. Two 2-way switches are wired together to control the same light.
What back box depth is required?
A 16mm minimum back box depth is needed. The switch has a total depth of 28.9mm including the screwless cover plate, which adds 14.6mm of projection from the wall once fitted.
How does the anti-microbial coating work?
The thermoset resin construction contains active agents that reduce bacterial growth on the surface. The coating has been independently tested to ISO 22196:2011, making it suitable for care homes, hospitals and other high-hygiene environments where touch surfaces need additional infection control measures.
