Description
The Knightsbridge 10A 1-gang intermediate switch features a wide rocker and anti-microbial white faceplate with a screwless profile. Intermediate switches sit between two 2-way switches to enable three-point control of the same light circuit, typically used in stairways with landings, long corridors with three access points, or bedrooms with door, bedside and en-suite switching.
The 9.5mm gently contoured plate uses a screwless cover that clips onto a separate sub-frame, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once installed. The wide rocker provides a larger surface area than standard rockers, making the switch easier to operate for users with limited dexterity or when carrying items up and down stairs. The white thermoset resin construction includes anti-microbial additives tested to ISO 22196:2011, which inhibit bacterial growth on the faceplate surface in healthcare, hospitality and residential environments.
The switch carries a 10A rating at 230V 50Hz and complies with EN 60669-1 for household fixed electrical installations. The captive terminals secure cable ends without requiring separate terminal screws. The 16mm minimum back box depth fits most standard single-gang flush boxes, with 14.5mm recessed behind the wall surface and 14.6mm projecting once fitted.

Frequently Asked
What is an intermediate switch and where is it used?
An intermediate switch sits between two 2-way switches to enable three or more points of control for the same light circuit. Common applications include stairways with landing switches, long corridors with switches at both ends and in the middle, and bedrooms with switching at the door, bedside and en-suite entrance.
What back box depth is required?
A 16mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. Standard 25mm single-gang flush metal boxes provide sufficient depth.
What are the anti-microbial properties?
The white thermoset resin faceplate contains additives tested to ISO 22196:2011 that inhibit bacterial growth on the switch surface. This reduces microbial colonisation in healthcare, hospitality and residential installations where switches are touched frequently.
Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?
Yes. The white cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
