Description
The Knightsbridge 10A 1-gang DP switch combines double pole switching with an anti-microbial surface treatment tested to ISO 22196:2011, designed for healthcare, food preparation, education and other hygiene-critical environments. The wide rocker switch sits behind a white screwless faceplate with a 9.5mm profile and rounded edges that reduce dirt traps and simplify cleaning routines.
Double pole switching isolates both live and neutral when the switch is off, making this suitable for circuits requiring full electrical isolation — commonly used for extractor fans, bathroom lighting with built-in heaters, or appliances where safety standards mandate DP control. The 10A rating handles lighting loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate sub-frame fixed to the back box, concealing fixings for a cleaner wall finish.
The anti-microbial treatment inhibits bacterial growth on the switch surface, helping maintain hygiene in frequently-touched areas where regular cleaning alone may not be sufficient. The white thermoset resin construction resists discolouration and impact better than standard plastic faceplates, and the 25-year warranty reflects the long service life expected in commercial and residential settings. The 16mm minimum back box depth requirement makes this compatible with shallow wall cavities where standard 25mm boxes cannot fit.

Frequently Asked
What does double pole (DP) switching mean?
Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is off, compared to single pole which breaks only the live. DP is required for certain circuits including extractor fans, bathroom heaters, and appliances where full electrical isolation is needed for safety or compliance.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 16mm back box depth is needed. This is shallower than the standard 25mm requirement for most switches, making this suitable for installations where wall cavity depth is limited.
How does the anti-microbial surface work?
The faceplate is treated with an anti-microbial coating tested to ISO 22196:2011, which inhibits bacterial growth on the surface. This reduces the bacterial load between cleaning cycles in healthcare, food preparation and education settings, though regular cleaning is still required.
Can the screwless plate be removed for decorating?
Yes. The white cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame that mounts to the back box. The cover can be unclipped for painting around the switch and re-fitted afterwards without disconnecting wiring.
