Description
The Knightsbridge 1-gang touchless switch activates or deactivates a lighting circuit with a hand gesture within 3cm of the smoked bronze faceplate, eliminating the need for physical contact. The gesture sensor sits behind a screwless 201 stainless steel plate finished in a dark smoked bronze tone, giving a contemporary metallic appearance that pairs well with industrial, dark-toned and modern interiors.
Designed for kitchens, bathrooms, clinical environments, care facilities and commercial spaces where reducing surface contact improves hygiene or convenience, the switch operates as a standard 1-gang 1-way replacement for a conventional rocker or toggle switch. The sensor requires a neutral wire connection at the back box to power its electronics, so a three-core cable (live, neutral, earth) must be present for installation. The switch operates on 230V 50Hz mains and fits a 25mm minimum back box depth.
The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, concealing all fixings once installed. The 4.3mm plate depth gives a low-profile finish that sits flush with the wall, and the integrated gasket around the edge of the plate prevents dust and moisture ingress to IP20 rating. The smoked bronze finish is a dark charcoal-brown metallic tone with slight warmth, visually similar to gunmetal or aged copper but lighter than matt black.

Frequently Asked
Does the touchless switch need a neutral wire?
Yes. The gesture sensor electronics require a neutral wire connection to operate, so a three-core cable (live, neutral, earth) must be present at the back box. Older UK installations using two-core switch drops (live and earth only) will need re-wiring before this switch can be fitted.
What is the detection range?
The sensor activates when a hand passes within 3cm of the faceplate. This short range prevents accidental activation from general movement near the switch and requires a deliberate gesture to operate.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for dry indoor locations only. It is not rated for damp or wet zones within a bathroom. For zones 1 and 2, a higher IP rating (IP44 or IP65) would be required.
What other finishes are available?
Knightsbridge produces touchless switches in several finishes including polished chrome, brushed chrome, matt black and white. Use the search function or filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
