Description
The Knightsbridge HEOD1309BK is a 1.3kW shortwave infrared heater built around a quartz R7s lamp housed in a black die-cast aluminium body with a protective mesh grille. The shortwave infrared technology heats objects and people directly rather than warming the air, making it effective outdoors where conventional convection heating is lost to wind. The unit reaches operating temperature within seconds of being switched on.
Designed for patios, pub gardens, café terraces, outdoor smoking areas and residential outdoor seating, the heater mounts either to a wall or onto a vertical pole between 20-60mm diameter using the included mounting bracket. The IP24 rating protects against rain splash from any direction, allowing year-round outdoor installation in UK weather. The 3m H05RN-F cable with fitted BS plug allows straightforward connection to a weatherproof outdoor socket.
The die-cast aluminium construction withstands outdoor exposure without corroding, while the black powder-coat finish resists UV degradation and pairs with most outdoor furniture finishes. The mesh grille protects the quartz lamp from accidental contact while allowing radiant heat to pass through unobstructed. At 345mm wide and 245mm high, the heater provides a coverage area of approximately 10m² depending on installation height and ambient temperature.
The shortwave infrared output produces no CO₂ or NOx emissions during operation, making it suitable for semi-enclosed outdoor areas where combustion heaters would require additional ventilation. The tungsten filament R7s lamp is user-replaceable (replacement part HEOT1300W sold separately), extending the working life of the unit beyond the initial lamp's rated hours.

Frequently Asked
How does shortwave infrared heating work outdoors?
Shortwave infrared heats objects and people directly through radiant energy rather than warming the air. This makes it effective outdoors where wind would disperse warm air from convection heaters. The quartz lamp produces infrared radiation that travels in straight lines until it hits a surface, where it's converted to heat.
What mounting options are included?
The heater includes a bracket that allows wall mounting or pole mounting onto vertical poles between 20-60mm diameter. The bracket, fixings and a 3m cable with fitted BS plug are supplied in the box.
Is the heater weatherproof?
Yes. The IP24 rating means the heater is protected against rain splash from any direction. It can be left outdoors year-round in UK weather, though the electrical connection must be made via a weatherproof outdoor socket or protected junction box.
What area does it heat?
The 1.3kW output covers approximately 10m² depending on installation height, ambient temperature and wind conditions. For best results, mount 2-2.5m above ground level and angle the heater towards the seating area.
