Description

The Quasar is a compact outdoor wall light with a conical grey powder-coated die-cast aluminium body and a sandblasted tempered glass diffuser at the aperture. The fitting houses a single GU10 bulb (sold separately) and is rated IP43 for installation in covered outdoor areas where direct rain exposure is minimal — porches, verandas, covered patios, and alcoves.

Designed for downward lighting, the Quasar casts a pool of light onto the wall beneath the fitting and down to the ground, making it suitable for marking doorways, illuminating steps, or providing low-level accent lighting along a garden wall. The 115mm diameter and 95mm projection keep the fitting close to the wall without protruding into circulation space. The sandblasted glass softens the beam and reduces glare when viewed from the side.

The die-cast aluminium body provides corrosion resistance and structural rigidity, while the grey powder-coated finish offers a neutral tone that pairs with both traditional brick and rendered facades, as well as contemporary cladding materials. The fitting is dimmable when paired with a dimmable GU10 LED bulb and a compatible dimmer switch. Ideal Lux backs the Quasar with a 5-year warranty.

What does IP43 mean for outdoor use?

IP43 provides protection against objects larger than 1mm and against light water spray at angles up to 60° from vertical. The Quasar is suitable for covered outdoor areas like porches and verandas where it won't be exposed to direct rainfall, but not for fully exposed walls without overhead protection.

What bulb does it take?

The fitting takes a single GU10 bulb up to the maximum wattage specified by Ideal Lux (typically 35-50W for halogen or equivalent LED). Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white GU10 LED between 4-7W and 2700K-3000K.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, when fitted with a dimmable GU10 LED bulb and connected to a compatible dimmer switch. The fitting itself does not include a dimmer — dimming is controlled at the switch.

How is the light directed?

The conical shape directs light downwards and outwards from the wall. The sandblasted glass diffuser softens the beam, creating a pool of light beneath the fitting rather than a hard spotlight effect.
