Payne 1 Light Bathroom Wall Light IP44 - Polished Chrome

The Payne is a 368mm tall bathroom wall light with a vertical white opal etched glass cylinder enclosed by polished chrome spun metal rings at the top and base, mounted on a square chrome backplate. The fitting carries an IP44 rating for safe use in bathroom zones 1, 2 and 3, and includes a single 3W 3000K G9 LED bulb that casts diffused light through the etched glass.

Designed for bathrooms, hallways and cloakrooms where wall-mounted task and ambient light is needed in moisture-prone areas, the Payne mounts vertically on a standard UK back box with the glass cylinder projecting 121mm from the wall. The opal etched glass diffuses light evenly up and down the cylinder, avoiding harsh spots or glare at eye level when the fitting is mounted at 1.5-1.8m height. The IP44 rating protects the electrical components from water splashes and condensation typical in bathrooms with showers or baths.

The polished chrome finish on the metal components provides a high-gloss reflective surface that pairs with chrome taps, towel rails and bathroom fittings. The spun metal rings at the top and base of the glass cylinder frame the opal glass and give the fitting a defined geometric profile rather than a plain tube. The 127mm width suits typical bathroom wall spaces between mirrors, cabinets and shower enclosures without overwhelming smaller rooms.

What bathroom zones is the Payne suitable for?

The IP44 rating makes the Payne safe for bathroom zones 1, 2 and 3. Zone 1 is the area directly above a bath or shower to 2.25m height, zone 2 is the area extending 60cm horizontally from the bath or shower, and zone 3 is the rest of the bathroom beyond 60cm. The fitting is not rated for zone 0 (inside the bath or shower enclosure itself).

Does the bulb need replacing?

The included 3W G9 LED bulb is rated for approximately 15,000-20,000 hours of use, equivalent to around 10-15 years at typical domestic usage levels. When the bulb does reach end of life, it can be replaced with any standard G9 LED bulb up to 3W.

How is the fitting cleaned?

Switch off the circuit before cleaning. Wipe the polished chrome with a soft dry microfibre cloth to remove water spots and fingerprints. The etched glass cylinder can be wiped with a barely-damp cloth and dried immediately. Avoid abrasive cleaners or chemical sprays that can damage the chrome finish or etch the glass.

Can this be fitted horizontally?

The Payne is designed to mount vertically with the glass cylinder standing upright. Mounting it horizontally would change the light distribution pattern and may affect the IP44 rating at the top and base seals.
