Olaia 4 Light Island Pendant - Matte Black Smoky Glass

The Olaia is a 91cm island pendant housing four GX53 LED bulbs inside smoky glass drum shades, suspended from a matte black metal bar. Each cylindrical shade measures approximately 13cm deep and emits light downward through the open base, with the smoked glass softening the glow and creating a layered lighting effect. The four shades are evenly spaced across the bar at roughly 22cm centres, providing balanced task and ambient light coverage across a 1.8-2.2m island or dining table.

Designed for kitchen islands, long dining tables and dual-height breakfast bars, the Olaia is height adjustable between 30cm and 110cm via adjustable suspension cables. This range allows installation in rooms with standard 2.4m ceilings or higher loft spaces, with the minimum drop positioning the shades close to a worktop and the maximum drop giving clearance above head height for taller dining setups. The fixture weighs 2.38kg suspended and uses gravity toggles to maintain alignment once installed.

The matte black finish on the bar and canopy provides a soft, non-reflective surface that pairs with both monochrome and warm-toned interiors. The smoky glass shades add translucency without full transparency, obscuring the bulb housings while allowing the warm 3000K LED light to diffuse through. The IP20 rating restricts the fitting to dry indoor locations, and the Class 1 earthed construction requires a standard ceiling rose with earth connection. The four included GX53 6W LEDs deliver a combined 2,640 lumens at a warm white colour temperature.

What height above the table should the Olaia be installed?

For dining tables, position the bottom of the shades 70-80cm above the table surface. For kitchen islands, 65-75cm above the worktop works well for task lighting without blocking sightlines. The adjustable cables between 30cm and 110cm allow flexibility depending on your ceiling height.

Are the LED bulbs replaceable?

Yes. The fitting uses four GX53 6W LED bulbs, which are a twist-lock style bulb. Replacement GX53 bulbs are widely available and can be swapped when needed by twisting the bulb anti-clockwise to remove.

What island length does the 91cm width suit?

The 91cm bar works best over islands or tables between 1.8m and 2.2m long. For shorter islands below 1.6m the four-light spread may look oversized; for longer islands above 2.4m a second fixture or a longer island pendant would provide better coverage.

Can it be installed on a sloped ceiling?

The adjustable cables allow the shades to hang vertically even on a sloped ceiling, but the rectangular canopy and bar are designed for horizontal ceiling mounting. On steeply sloped ceilings the canopy may not sit flush and may require additional mounting hardware.
