Description

The Mercury is a 4-core flat telephone and data cable supplied on a 100m reel with a white PVC sheath. Each core comprises 7 strands of 0.15mm diameter copper wire, giving a combined cross-sectional area of 0.124mm² per core. The flat profile measures 2.5 x 5mm, allowing the cable to be run along skirting boards, under carpets and through tight gaps where round cable cannot fit.

Designed for domestic and commercial telephone extensions, intercom systems, and low-speed data links, the cable is typically terminated with RJ11 (2-pair telephone), RJ12 (3-pair telephone) or RJ45 (Ethernet/data) connectors depending on the application. The 4-core configuration supports two independent telephone lines or a single telephone line plus additional control wiring for door entry systems and similar installations.

The white sheath blends with white skirting, door frames and wall surfaces, reducing visual impact when surface-run. The flat profile sits flush against walls and under carpet edges without creating a noticeable ridge. The 100m reel length suits multi-room installations, commercial office fit-outs and residential developments where several extensions are wired from a central distribution point.

Frequently Asked

What connectors does this cable fit?

The 4-core cable is typically terminated with RJ11 connectors for standard 2-pair telephone lines, RJ12 for 3-pair telephone systems, or RJ45 for data and structured cabling applications. The connector type depends on the specific installation requirement.

Can it be run under carpets?

Yes. The 2.5 x 5mm flat profile allows the cable to be run under carpet edges and along skirting boards without creating a noticeable ridge. Avoid running under heavy furniture or in high-traffic areas where repeated compression could damage the cores over time.

Is it suitable for Ethernet data transmission?

The cable supports low-speed data applications and basic telephone extensions, but it is not rated for high-speed Ethernet (100Mbps or 1Gbps). For modern network installations use Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat6a cable instead.

How many telephone lines can it support?

The 4-core configuration supports two independent telephone lines (each line uses 2 cores), or one telephone line plus additional control wiring for door entry, intercom or alarm systems.
