Description
The LumiLife 2W emergency downlight is a non-maintained LED fitting designed to activate only during a mains power failure, providing 230 lumens of 6500K daylight-white illumination for emergency evacuation routes. The fitting produces zero light during normal mains operation, remaining dark until required, and mounts directly onto ceiling surfaces via a white plastic bezel housing the integrated LED and battery pack.
Designed for commercial corridors, office stairwells, public building escape routes and residential common areas where Building Regulations require maintained emergency lighting, the downlight operates on 220-240V AC mains supply and switches to internal battery power when the supply is lost. The surface mount design means no ceiling cut-out is required — the fitting mounts directly onto plasterboard, concrete or timber ceilings using two fixing points concealed behind the bezel.
The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations away from direct moisture exposure. The white bezel measures approximately 95mm diameter and projects 40mm from the ceiling surface, giving a low-profile installation that suits ceiling heights from 2.4m upwards. The integrated driver and battery pack are contained within the housing, so no separate control gear or battery box is needed elsewhere in the ceiling void.

Frequently Asked
What does non-maintained mean?
Non-maintained means the fitting remains off during normal mains operation and only illuminates when the mains power supply fails. This differs from maintained emergency lighting, which stays lit continuously and switches to battery power during an outage.
What battery duration does it provide?
Check the specification sheet in the Downloads section for exact battery runtime. Most non-maintained emergency downlights provide between 1-3 hours of emergency illumination from a full charge.
Can it be used in bathrooms or outdoor areas?
No. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations only. Bathrooms, shower rooms and any outdoor or damp environments require a higher IP rating such as IP65.
Does it need regular testing?
Yes. UK Building Regulations require emergency lighting to be tested monthly (brief function test) and annually (full duration test). The green test button visible on the bezel allows manual testing without isolating the mains supply.
