Description

The COB LED Strip is a continuous, dot-free line of diodes on a flexible 5m reel, giving an even run of light with none of the spotting you see on older SMD tape. It draws 3W per metre and puts out 288 lumens per metre in a fixed warm white at 3000K, with a colour rendering of Ra 80 for natural-looking tones. In US terms this is the kind of low-voltage led tape light used for under-cabinet and cove runs, and it carries the same smooth, uninterrupted glow along its full length.

Indoors it suits kitchen plinths and under-cabinet runs, shelf and display lighting, cove and ceiling perimeters, and accent detailing along stairs, joinery and recesses. The warm 3000K tone and modest 288 lm/m output make it an accent and task-edge light rather than a primary room source, so plan it as a continuous line that grazes a surface or fills a channel rather than lighting a whole space. The strip cuts to length at the marked 5cm interval, so a single 5m reel can be trimmed into several shorter sections to follow a worktop, a shelf edge or a stair string exactly.

The strip runs on 24V DC, so it is not mains-direct and needs a matching 24V LED driver, which is sold separately and sized to the total wattage of the run you install. It carries an IP00 rating, which means it is for dry indoor use only and should be kept clear of bathrooms, kitchens splash zones and any damp or outdoor location. The flexible backing peels and sticks into an aluminium profile or channel, the free cable ends make wiring straightforward, and the LEDs are rated for around 30,000 hours. Does this LED strip need a driver?

Yes. It runs on 24V DC, so it cannot connect straight to a mains socket and needs a separate 24V LED driver. Size the driver to the total wattage of the length you install, allowing 3W for every metre of strip used.

Can the strip be cut to length?

Yes. It can be trimmed at the marked cut points every 5cm, so a 5m reel can be divided into shorter sections to fit a worktop, shelf or stair run. Only cut at the marked intervals so the circuit stays intact.

Can it be used outdoors or in a bathroom?

No. This reel is rated IP00, which is for dry indoor use only. Keep it out of bathrooms, splash zones and any damp or outdoor location, and choose an IP65 coated strip for those settings instead.

What is the difference between COB and standard SMD strip?

COB places the diodes in a continuous line under a phosphor coating, so the lit edge looks like one smooth band with no visible dots. This makes it well suited to coves and channels where individual SMD points would otherwise show through a diffuser.
