Austen Bathroom Wall Light - Polished Nickel Ribbed Glass

The Austen is a single-arm bathroom wall light with a fluted ribbed glass shade mounted on a polished nickel-plated solid brass arm and backplate. The 139mm-wide glass shade sits on a stepped collar and diffuses light through vertical ridges that soften glare and spread the beam across vanity mirrors and basin areas. The fitting carries an IP44 rating, making it suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3 where water spray is occasional rather than direct.

Designed for bathroom mirror lighting, the Austen mounts 217mm high and projects 173mm from the wall, positioning the light source forward of the backplate to illuminate faces at a mirror without casting hard shadows. The polished nickel finish on the solid brass frame gives a bright, reflective surface that works alongside chrome taps and mirror frames in traditional and classical bathroom schemes. The stepped circular backplate provides a substantial mounting point that covers existing fixing holes when replacing older fittings.

The ribbed glass shade is cut with vertical fluting that creates linear highlights when the bulb is lit, adding decorative detail to the functional light output. The included 3W LED G9 bulb produces 3000K warm white light comparable to a traditional 25-30W halogen, suitable for colour-accurate mirror tasks like makeup application and shaving. The solid brass construction and electroplated nickel finish resist corrosion in humid bathroom environments better than stamped steel or zinc alloy alternatives.

What bathroom zones can this be used in?

The IP44 rating makes the Austen suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3, which are areas beyond 60cm from a bath or shower where occasional water spray may occur but not direct jets. It is not rated for zone 1 (directly above a bath or shower cubicle) or zone 0 (inside a bath or shower).

Can the bulb be replaced?

Yes. The included 3W LED G9 bulb is user-replaceable. To change the bulb, remove the glass shade by unscrewing the stepped collar that holds it to the brass arm, pull out the existing G9 capsule bulb, and insert a replacement. Any G9 LED up to 3W or any halogen G9 up to 25W will fit.

What height should it be mounted at?

For mirror lighting, mount the Austen at eye level or slightly above, typically 1600-1800mm from the floor depending on the user's height and the mirror position. The 173mm projection means the light sits forward enough to illuminate faces without creating harsh shadows from overhead.

Is the glass shade replaceable if damaged?

Contact Elstead Lighting or Niori for spare glass shades. The fluted glass shade is held by a threaded collar and can be removed for cleaning or replacement without re-wiring the fitting.
