Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch is a flat-plate metal switch designed for controlling fixed appliances rated up to 20A at 230V, including water heaters, immersion heaters and small consumer units. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, meeting the requirement for certain fixed appliance installations where single-pole switching is not permitted.

The switch fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses a low-profile flat plate construction in brushed chrome-finished steel. The plate projects just 2.5mm from the wall once installed, with a built-in gasket behind the plate to seal against the wall surface. The rocker itself is finished in matching brushed chrome, giving a monochrome appearance without white or black inserts.

Certified to EN 60669-1 and rated IP20, the switch is designed for dry indoor locations and carries a 25-year warranty. The brushed chrome finish pairs with contemporary, industrial and monochrome interiors, and resists fingerprints better than polished chrome while providing a cooler metallic tone than brass or copper finishes.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is this switch designed for?

The 20A rating suits fixed appliances including water heaters, immersion heaters, small consumer units and dedicated appliance circuits. It is not designed for standard lighting or 13A socket circuits.

What is double pole switching and why is it required?

Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is in the off position, providing complete electrical isolation. Building regulations require DP switches for certain fixed appliances, particularly those involving water heating.

What back box depth is needed?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is required. The flat plate adds just 2.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted, making this one of the lowest-profile switch designs available.

Is the flat plate screwed to the wall or does it clip on?

The flat plate is screw-fixed directly to the back box. The screws are visible on the faceplate, which is typical of flat-plate designs and distinguishes them from screwless ranges.
