Description

The Knightsbridge 13A 1-gang unswitched floor socket provides a recessed power outlet protected by a spring-loaded polished brass cover with a white insert. The cover sits almost flush with the floor surface when closed, projecting just 3mm, and lifts to reveal a standard 13A socket when pressure is applied. The spring mechanism returns the cover to the closed position automatically once the plug is removed, keeping dust and debris out of the socket aperture.

Designed for installation into floors in hotel rooms, office meeting rooms, exhibition spaces and residential living areas where wall sockets are impractical, the socket recesses 30mm into the floor structure and requires a 35mm minimum back box depth. The IP20 rating makes it suitable for dry indoor environments only. The unswitched design means the socket remains live at all times when the circuit is energised, providing immediate power without needing to operate a switch before use.

The polished brass finish provides a warm metallic accent that pairs with traditional brass door furniture, light fittings and classical interiors. The white insert behind the brass cover provides contrast to define the socket aperture and reduce visual weight compared to a solid brass plate. The premium-grade steel construction resists wear from regular foot traffic and the 25-year warranty backs long-term reliability in commercial and residential settings.

Frequently Asked

What floor depth is needed for installation?

The socket recesses 30mm into the floor and requires a 35mm minimum back box depth below the floor surface. This means a total floor void of at least 65mm is needed for safe installation. Consult a qualified electrician before cutting floor voids in timber or concrete floors.

Is the socket always live or can it be switched off?

This is an unswitched socket, meaning it remains live whenever the circuit is energised. The spring-loaded cover protects the outlet when not in use but does not isolate the power. If switched control is needed, install a separate isolator switch on the circuit or choose a switched floor socket model.

Can this be used in bathrooms or wet areas?

No. The IP20 rating means the socket is protected against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but has no protection against water ingress. It is suitable for dry indoor environments only and must not be installed in bathrooms, kitchens near sinks, or any location where water or cleaning fluids might enter the socket.

How does the spring-loaded cover work?

Apply downward pressure to the brass cover and it lifts to reveal the socket aperture. Insert the plug, release the cover and it stays open while the plug is in place. Remove the plug and the spring mechanism automatically returns the cover to the closed position, keeping dust and debris out of the socket.
