Description

The Verge is a single-light pendant built around a 35cm wide handmade opal glass shade with a flat top, angled shoulder and rounded base. The shade hangs from a slim matt black ceiling cup and stem on a 150cm black cable, and takes one E27 bulb (sold separately). Width 35cm, height 20cm.

The opal glass acts as a full-surround diffuser, softening the bulb behind it and casting an even downward glow with a gentle halo through the shoulder of the shade. This makes the Verge well-suited to dining tables, kitchen islands, breakfast bars and bedside positions, where direct glare from a bare filament would be uncomfortable but ambient light is wanted. The 150cm cable can be shortened on installation to set the shade at the right drop above a table or worktop.

The shade is hand-blown, so subtle variation in wall thickness and surface finish is normal between pieces and contributes to the way light is diffused. The matt black ceiling cup and stem provide a clean visual break between the white shade and the ceiling, and the slim profile keeps the fixing visually quiet so the glass form reads as the main element. The compact 20cm height makes the Verge usable in rooms with standard 2.4m ceilings as well as taller spaces.

What bulb does it take?

The Verge takes one E27 (Edison screw) bulb, sold separately. An E27 GLS filament bulb suits the modern-industrial style of the fitting, while a frosted or opal LED in 2700K-3000K gives a warmer ambient output. Choose a bulb rated within the wattage limit shown on the lampholder.

Can the cable be shortened?

Yes. The 150cm black cable is intended to be adjusted on installation to set the shade at the desired drop. Above a dining table the shade typically sits 700-800mm from the surface, and above a kitchen island 750-900mm, depending on ceiling height.

Will any variation in the glass be visible?

The opal shade is hand-blown, so small variations in wall thickness, surface texture and tonal density between pieces are normal. These are characteristics of the handmade glass rather than defects, and they affect how the shade diffuses light when lit.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

The Verge has no IP rating listed, so it is intended for general indoor use rather than bathroom zones. For bathrooms, choose a fitting with an appropriate IP rating for the zone in which it will be installed.
