Small Vintage Wall Lantern on a Goose Neck Bracket - Black

The Goose Neck range takes its curve from the old farmyard bracket of the same name, and this is the compact wall lantern: a single sweeping arm carrying a spun teardrop shade over a clear polycarbonate cylinder. The shade points the light down rather than out, which makes it a working light as much as a decorative one. It measures 460mm tall by 470mm across, so it reaches almost as far from the wall as it stands, and at 5.60KG it is the lightest fitting in this selection by a wide margin.

It suits a barn, a stable yard, a garage, a side passage or the wall above a back door, and it works along a driveway where a run of them at intervals lights the edge without the cost of posts. The shade is spun aluminium on a galvanised mild steel arm, hand sprayed in gloss black enamel, and Harte rate it IP44 for splashing from any direction. Because the light is directed downwards rather than sideways it is a good neighbour on a boundary wall, where an open lantern would throw light into somebody else's garden.

The lamp is an ordinary E27 screw fitting supplied without a bulb, so the output and the colour are yours. A 7W LED at 2700K keeps the warm look the shape suggests. The same fitting is made with a hand spun copper head, which weathers to brown and then green over years where the painted version holds its colour. Everything is made to order in County Wexford, so allow two to five weeks, and other RAL colours can be sprayed instead of black if you ask when ordering.

How far does it project from the wall?

470mm across against 460mm of height, so it reaches about as far out as it stands tall. Allow for that on a narrow passage.

Is the light directed downwards?

Yes. The teardrop shade caps the lamp and pushes the light down, which is why it works on a boundary wall without throwing light into a neighbour's garden.
