Description

The Knightsbridge MRJ45 is a single-gang RJ45 network outlet in a metal clad housing, supporting CAT5e UTP Ethernet connections up to 1Gbps. The outlet uses IDC (insulation displacement contact) terminals for terminating twisted pair cable without stripping individual conductors, and comes with an integrated back box for surface mounting on walls, workshop surfaces, or anywhere permanent network access is needed.

Designed for light commercial, workshop, garage and outbuilding installations where a standard plastic faceplate would not withstand the environment, the metal clad construction uses powder-coated premium grade steel to resist knocks, abrasion and moisture ingress to IP20 standard. The 82mm square faceplate is fixed with visible screws and includes an earth terminal for grounding the metal enclosure to the building's earth system.

The 45mm projection from the wall gives enough depth to accommodate cable entry from the rear or side knockout points in the back box. The powder-coated grey finish is factory-applied and does not require painting, making it suitable for use in areas where aesthetics are secondary to durability. The RJ45 module accepts standard Ethernet patch cables and provides a solid click-lock connection for cables used in fixed installations.

What category of Ethernet cable does this support?

The outlet is rated for CAT5e UTP cable, supporting network speeds up to 1Gbps over twisted pair copper. It can be used with CAT6 cable but will operate at CAT5e specification limits.

Can this be used outdoors?

No. The IP20 rating provides basic protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but offers no protection against moisture. For outdoor or wet-location network outlets, an IP65 or IP66 rated enclosure is required.

Does the back box need to be purchased separately?

No. The back box is included with the outlet and forms part of the metal clad assembly. The unit arrives ready to mount on the wall with cable entry through pre-formed knockout points in the box.

How are the cables terminated?

The outlet uses IDC (insulation displacement contact) terminals. Individual conductors from the twisted pair cable are pressed into the terminal slots using a punch-down tool, which cuts through the insulation to make contact without needing to strip the wire first.
