Medium Victorian Wall Lantern on a Scroll Bracket - Black

This is the mid-size wall lantern from the Traditional range, a Victorian park lantern carried on a decorative cast iron scroll bracket and measuring 520mm across overall. The lantern is the tapered four-sided shape the range is built around, glazed in hand-cut glass and topped with a cast finial. At 970mm from the top of the finial to the bottom of the bracket it is a large fitting, and it is meant to be: the range was scaled down from an original Victorian lamp post, and this is the version that keeps the proportions of the original.

It suits a wide front door, a pair of gateposts with a wall behind them, a courtyard wall or the front of a shop. Harte make it in cast iron with a galvanised mild steel arm, hand sprayed in gloss black enamel, and it weighs 28.70KG, so the fixing needs to go into solid masonry rather than render alone. The lantern takes an ordinary E27 screw lamp, which keeps the output and the colour your choice rather than the factory's, and Harte rate the fitting IP44 for splashing from any direction.

It is made to order in New Ross, County Wexford, where the family have been casting outdoor lighting since 1983, so allow two to five weeks. Gloss black is standard and other colours can be sprayed before assembly if you ask when ordering. The lantern on its own is the LN002, so a replacement head can be bought separately later without changing the bracket. Wiring an outdoor fitting is work for a qualified electrician on a properly protected circuit.

Is it suitable for an exposed position?

It is rated IP44, which covers splashing from any direction and suits most wall positions. For a fully open coastal elevation, look at the IP65 fittings in the range.

Can I get it in a colour other than black?

Yes. Gloss black is standard, and Harte will spray any RAL colour to order. Say so when you order, because the colour goes on before the light is glazed and assembled.

Can I buy a replacement lantern on its own?

Yes. The lantern on this fitting is the LN002, sold separately, so the head can be replaced without changing the bracket.
