Description
The Dawson is a 428mm outdoor wall lantern built around a tapered black oxide aluminium frame with clear beveled glass panels and a burnished bronze arched handle. The frame tapers slightly from bottom to top, giving the traditional lantern shape a more architectural proportion, while the oversized bronze handle arched across the top adds both a visual anchor and a material contrast to the black oxide finish.
Rated IP44 for outdoor use, the Dawson suits front door positions, porch entrances, and exterior garage walls where a weather-resistant fitting is needed. The clear beveled glass gives direct, unobstructed light from the single E27 bulb (sold separately, 60W max), making it suitable for functional entrance lighting rather than just decorative accent. The 243mm projection from the wall gives clearance for downward throw without the lantern sitting too proud of the facade.
The black oxide finish on the aluminium frame is a cooler-toned near-black that sits between matt black and charcoal, while the burnished bronze handle carries warm undertones. This combination pairs comfortably with red brick, painted render in whites and greys, and stone or slate exteriors. The beveled glass detail at each panel edge softens reflections under daylight and adds a subtle traditional reference without crossing into period pastiche.

Frequently Asked
What IP rating does this lantern carry?
The Dawson is rated IP44, meaning it is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashing from any direction. This makes it suitable for covered porches, front doors, and exterior walls under eaves or soffits. It is not rated for full exposure to driving rain without some overhead cover.
What bulb does it take?
The lantern takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for traditional entrance lighting.
Can it be mounted upside down or horizontally?
The Dawson is designed to be wall-mounted vertically with the handle at the top. Mounting it upside down or horizontally would compromise the IP44 rating and alter the intended light distribution from the tapered frame.
What's the difference between black oxide and matt black?
Black oxide is a cooler-toned near-black finish with a subtle metallic sheen, sitting between matt black and charcoal. Matt black is a flat, non-reflective pure black. The black oxide finish on the Dawson picks up more light variation under daylight and pairs better with cooler-toned brickwork and stone exteriors.
