Description
This COB LED strip light puts out a continuous, dot-free line of red light along a flexible 5m reel, drawing 10.5W per metre and giving around 200 lumens per metre. Known in the US as COB led tape, it differs from older spaced-diode tape by hiding the individual chips behind a uniform phosphor line, so there are no visible hot spots when the strip is viewed straight on. It runs on 24V DC rather than direct mains, and the reel can be shortened at the marked cut points every 5cm to fit the exact length of a run.
The red output makes this strip suited to accent and effect work rather than general room lighting, so think of it as a decorative line of colour rather than a source you light a space by. It works well tucked into coves, behind shelving, under cabinets, along plinths and into recessed channels where the lit line is seen but the strip itself stays hidden. Because the light is delivered as a low, even glow along its length, judge coverage by the run you want to outline rather than by floor area. As an IP00 strip it is for dry indoor positions only, so keep it clear of bathrooms, kitchens with splash zones and any outdoor or damp location.
The diodes sit on a slim flexible backing that measures just 8mm across, letting the reel bend around indoor corners and follow contours. It needs a matching 24V DC LED driver, supplied separately, sized to the total wattage of the length you install, so do not connect the reel straight to a wall socket. Cuts are made only at the marked 5cm intervals, and the rated life is around 30,000 hours. The reel weighs 56g. Other colours and white tones are offered across the wider COB strip range, along with compatible drivers and connectors.

Frequently Asked
Does this strip need a separate driver?
Yes. It runs on 24V DC, not mains voltage, so it needs a matching 24V DC LED driver, which is supplied separately. Size the driver to the total wattage of the length you install, allowing for 10.5W per metre.
Where can the strip be cut?
The reel cuts only at the marked cut points, which fall every 5cm along its length. Cutting at any other position will leave a dead section, so always trim on the printed line to match your run.
Can it be used outdoors or in a bathroom?
No. This strip is rated IP00, which means dry indoor use only. Keep it out of bathrooms, kitchen splash zones, porches and any outdoor or damp location, where a coated IP65 strip would be needed instead.
What is the difference between COB and standard SMD tape?
A COB strip carries its diodes as a continuous line behind a single phosphor coating, so the lit line looks even with no visible dots. Older SMD tape uses spaced individual diodes, which can show as separate points of light when viewed straight on.
