Description
The Knightsbridge CAT6a RJ45 network outlet provides a single shuttered unshielded RJ45 port behind a brushed chrome flat plate with a 2.5mm projection from the wall. The CAT6a specification supports data transfer rates up to 10Gbps over distances up to 100m at frequencies up to 500MHz, making it suitable for high-speed wired networks, Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices, and commercial AV installations.
Designed for residential smart home installations, home offices, commercial buildings and hospitality environments where wired Ethernet is preferred over wireless, the outlet fits a standard 35mm minimum back box depth. The flat plate construction uses 201 stainless steel finished in brushed chrome, with a built-in gasket to seal the gap between plate and wall surface. The outlet is backwards compatible with CAT5e and CAT6 cabling, allowing it to be used in older installations where infrastructure is being upgraded incrementally.
The brushed chrome finish provides a neutral metallic appearance that pairs with both modern and traditional interior schemes. The 2.5mm projection keeps the plate close to the wall surface, reducing the risk of snagging on furniture or trailing cables. The shuttered RJ45 port prevents dust and debris entering the socket when not in use. The IDC termination system on the rear of the outlet accepts solid-core or stranded CAT6a cable using punch-down termination.

Frequently Asked
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 35mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The outlet itself has a recessed depth of 30.4mm, with the flat plate adding 2.5mm projection from the wall once fitted.
Is this compatible with CAT5e or CAT6 cable?
Yes. The CAT6a outlet is backwards compatible with CAT5e and CAT6 cabling. However, to achieve the full 10Gbps data rate at 500MHz, certified CAT6a cable must be used throughout the network run.
What does the shuttered port do?
The shutter closes the RJ45 port aperture when no cable is plugged in, preventing dust, debris and moisture ingress. The shutter opens automatically when an RJ45 plug is inserted.
Can this be used for PoE devices?
Yes. The CAT6a specification includes improved crosstalk performance and heat dissipation compared to CAT5e and CAT6, making it better suited to Power over Ethernet applications where data and power are carried on the same cable.
